Contact lenses

Contact lenses after 40

Wearing contact lenses doesn't end at 40, but the choices change. A fitting is a separate step from your eye exam, with its own measurements, trial lenses and follow-up.

Your contact lens prescription is yours. We give you a copy when your fitting is complete, and you can fill it anywhere.

  • Multifocal and monovision fittings

  • Trial lenses before you commit

  • A follow-up to check how they feel

Your fitting

Four steps to a contact lens prescription

  1. 01

    Step 1: Eye exam

A comprehensive exam shows your prescription and whether your eyes are healthy enough for contact lenses.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Fitting measurements

We measure the curve and size of your eye and talk through how you would wear the lenses.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Trial lenses

You wear a pair for a week or two, in your own day, before we settle on one.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Follow-up and prescription

We check how the lenses sit and how you see. When the fitting is complete, you get your prescription.

Lens types for near vision

  • Multifocal

Distance and near zones in each lens. Many wearers still keep reading glasses for small print.

  • Monovision

One eye for distance and one for near. A trial shows whether your eyes accept it.

  • Single vision with reading glasses

Contact lenses for distance, with a pair of reading glasses for near. Simple, and a good place to start.

Before you come

  • How it is billed

A contact lens exam and fitting are billed separately from the eye exam, and a vision plan may help with them. We check what yours covers and tell you before the fitting.

    How fees work
  • What to bring

    • Your current contact lens boxes or the names on them

    • Your glasses

About contact lenses

Can I wear contact lenses and still need reading glasses?

Yes. Many people do. We talk through the choices, and a trial shows what works for you.

Can I buy contact lenses somewhere else?

Yes. Your contact lens prescription is yours, and you can fill it anywhere once your fitting is complete.
